A young man applied for a job as a farmhand. When the farmer asked for his qualifications, he said, "I can sleep when the wind blows." This puzzled the farmer, but he liked the young man, so he hired him.
A few days later, the farmer and his wife were awakened in the night by a violent storm. They quickly got up checking to see if all was secure. They were irritated to see that the young farmhand was fast alseep. Then they saw that the shutters on the house had been securely fastened and a good supply of logs had been set next to the fireplace. As they checked the rest of the property, they found that the farm tools had been placed in the storage shed, safe from the elements. The tractor had been moved into the garage. The barn was properly locked and even the animals were all safe inside and calm. All was well. Then the farmer understood the meaning of the young man's words, "I can sleep when the wind blows." He had done his work & was prepared, so when the wind blew, he was not afraid and could sleep in peace. Moral: If you are prepared, you will have nothing to fear. (D&C 38:30)
We will be starting our "Sleep Well" project this month in an effort to prepare ourselves for whatever may come as the prophets have asked us to do for decades. If you need handouts, check with the RS presidency. Each month we will be posting things here for you to focus on for that month. These are only suggestions as personal preparedness is just that...personal. Only you will know what your family uses and needs. General guidelines can be given and information shared, but you must personalize it for your needs. We encourage you in your efforts and are happy to help in any way we can. We would also encourage you to share with all of us any good deals you find or golden nuggets of information. Provident living includes temporal, emotional, and spiritual preparedness. Do not neglect any of these aspects. Comments can be left on this blog or you can call Susan Glavinic at 760-749-6350.
